I went to a blacklight party this weekend, and I thought this was a perfect example of self-validation and marking one's territory. There was a girl from Brazil there, and she drew her country's flag. Other people drew pictures and wrote their name. I even saw the hand outline and it reminded me of the hand prints on the cave walls!
One of my favorite things in the whole world is getting snail mail. I'm the designated mail-getter at my apartment because I'm always hoping that I have mail waiting for me. It is so much more personal and thoughtful to receive a card or letter in the mail than just a simple email. My family knows this, and they send me mail every once in a while!
In class, we were talking about the pros and cons of printed books and e-books. I am a huge supporter of print books! My boyfriend searched a bunch of used bookstores to find me an old copy of Gone With The Wind (my favorite movie, a great book so far!). I just think old books have such a story behind them. Right now, I could never see myself using a Kindle. I love being able to turn the pages and actually see my progress through the book.
This kid next to me in Perception class surrounded himself with everything he would rather be doing than taking boring notes- interestingly they include all different types of media. He's got his headphones, a book he is reading for fun, and his smartphone all sitting there. As soon as class was over he started listening to pandora on his phone.
Kuu is one of the graphic designers where I work. I think its cool that she gets paid to create things that are visually appealing. I love design, I'm just not very good at it! Here, she is creating a crest for one of Dick Devos' organizations. Every element in this design is meant to communicate something specific.

My roommate can't even eat a snack without having to update her Twitter on her new Iphone! She is one of those people who kind of lives in her own digital world. I was sitting right there talking to her, and she was having conversations with probably three other people at the same time.
In the Connection, this TV displays text messages sent from customers/students with responses from Campus Dining. I thought this was a really neat way for Campus Dining to interact with their customers- it's kind of a new take on feedback cards.
This is one of the coolest music experiences I've ever had. When I was at an event programming conference, we went to a Headphone Disco. Each person receives their own set of headphones where they control the volume and they can switch between two channels. There are two DJs at the front of the room, one playing oldies like YMCA, Baby Got Back, etc while the other one plays top 40 club music (these are the two channels). It's kind of like a DJ battle to see who is listening to what music. So, there are hundreds of people together in a room, jamming out and dancing to the music they chose to hear from their headphones and the room is SILENT! Except for people singing along, there is no music playing in the room. The idea originated in England, so hopefully it will become more popular here! http://headphonedisco.com/

This is a picture of my 'desk.' As you can see, it's much different from Professor Graeber's desk! What does this say about me nonverbally? I like to see everything I'm working on spread out, not in neat piles, I like to drink coffee when I'm doing homework, and I get really bored and uncomfortable working at a standard desk.
This photo is full of nonverbals! You can tell by Peter's body language that he just bowled a great frame. Kayla is in the background 'photobombing' and pointing, which indicates 'look over there.'
This is a picture of me eating dinner one night. At home, my family always sits together at the dinner table and turns the TV off, but at school I don't usually have anyone to sit down and eat dinner with, so I usually sit on the couch and watch TV.
I saw this image in my Psychology of Culture textbook and thought it was so perfect for this blog! It shows how TV has changed the way Americans celebrate Thanksgiving and the way we communicate today.
Julia was dancing to "Gold digger" at the bowling ally. She caught me taking a picture and started laughing!
My coworker, Erica, always listens to Pandora while she writes. She likes to listen to classical music while she works, which I thought was very interesting!
I saw this newspaper on the floor of the bus one night and thought it could possibly reflect how the students feel about the Lanthorn.
This is a picture of one of my friends writing an article for her news reporting class. I would say that the AP Stylebook is the best resource for writing print media.

My boyfriend was telling me yesterday about how different ties mean different things. Ding ding ding! Awesome example of nonverbal communication! He was saying that blue ties are typically worn in a business setting and red ties are very political. He also said that it is never acceptable to wear a red tie at a funeral and black ties should only be worn a very special events! Very interesting...

One of my favorite things to do is make collages with magazine clippings. This is a picture of a binder cover I made. Magazines are good for more than just reading!
I never realized how much restaurants rely on tv and radio to set the mood until I went to Applebees the other day and it was SILENT! It was snowing really hard so the satellites must have gone out. It was probably the most awkward dinner because I am just so use to there always being background noise!
A typical evening with my roommate. She is completely inseparable with her Iphone and quite a multitasker. She's probably on either facebook or twitter while watching tv.
